Lesson two contrasts the motivation of the heroes and villains as philosophical and shows how Dagny’s motivation, in particular, progresses and relates to the philosophical theme of the novel. In Part Two of the novel we see how Rearden progresses with his initial grasp of the sanction of the victim and his struggle with the mind-body dichotomy.
