Lesson one provides the general framework for how to think of Atlas Shrugged as a work of philosophy.  The rest of the course is framed around the philosophical progression of Rearden and Dagny. In Part One of the novel, we see the motivations of Rearden and Dagny as prime movers as being fundamentally philosophical in nature.
